Creative Workshops – Arts and Crafts

We have a space especially designed for you to nurture your creative side with crafty cocktails of fun!! Last year we made poi, dream catchers and all contributed to a fantastic willow sculpture. This year we are planning Mexican Sugar Skull making, a huge art collaboration, a graffiti wall, an introduction to magic and spell making and so much more…

Children’s workshops

We aim to deliver a fantastic selection of workshops aimed at the younger members of barefoot this year. As well as all the arty crafty stuff going off in the arts tent that the children are welcome to join in with, we will also be wearing the little tinkers out with yoga bugs, story telling, percussion workshops, dance classes and martial arts and stuff aimed at older kids too. We are also hoping to host some fantastic children’s entertainers this year to mesmerize and enchant!! The wee ones should sleep well indeed!!

Charleston

Sweet, swinging jazz, happy happy happy dance!! Dare you not to smile while you practice this fun and energetic jig, set you foot tapping, heart beating and you’ll be bubbling with giggles!!

Throughout the weekend there will be various workshop lead by experienced and professional teachers and trainers. There will be various craft sessions and workshops for children and adults.

Below is a small idea of some of the workshops you can expect to attend during the weekend. We aim to take you on a journey around the world and to step out of your usual comfort zone if you wish? Don’t be shy, try something new, you may discover new talents you never knew you had! All of the teachers are hand selected for their skills and “barefoot personality,” some returning each year, others are fresh faces with new ideas and assets! Most of the teachers will be displaying their skills as part of our cabaret show on Saturday night.

African Dance

This is an energetic and beautiful dance returning to the festival again this year. It was an incredibly popular workshop last year and everyone came out of the workshop glowing!!!

Belly Dancing

This exotic and entrancing dance is now more popular than ever! Beautiful and graceful the workshops will be suitable for the beginner and also exciting and challenging for the more advanced levels.

Flamenco

The power, the passion and the charm of this dance will be available for you to sample over the weekend, with an introduction to the traditional Flamenco dance with a superb and experienced teacher.

Poi and Hoola Hooping

Poi is the art of spinning little balls or flags on chains and cord around the body! Great for adults and children, its addictive and fantastic fun and hypnotising to watch! Originating in New Zealand this practise is catching on like wild fire! Talking of Fire, there will be fire poi demonstrations on the Friday and Saturday night! Prepare to be mesmerized by some of our professional fire dancers and take part in the beautiful Thai lantern ritual! Those who attended last year will remember this magical experience.

Do you remember Hoola Hooping as a kid? It’s great fun for the youngand old and a unique and enchanting way to keep fit. With spectacular Hoop displays planned this year be sure to check this one out.

Burlesque and French Can Can

Moulin Rouge, eat your heart out!! We will be learning some tricks of the trade in this workshop lead by an experienced and professional Burlesque performer. Discover how to tease and twirl! Get your “Oh la la!” this year with the fantastic French Can Can workshop – bring a big skirt, your best frilly knickers and a well supported bra!! Prepare to be teased and tantalized on the Saturday night Cabaret with the Burlesque and Can Can spectacular!!!

Morris Dancing

Another popular choice last year, unusual and entertaining, try you hand at this traditional dance. Don’t worry you won’t be needing your hankies! You’ll learn a little ditty in this workshop.

Goddess Workshop

A beautiful workshop lead by beautiful goddesses! Try a little circle dancing and some guided meditation, find where the Goddess is in your modern life.

Samba

Lead by a fantastic teacher, get your heart rate going with this energetic and passionate dance form! Feel the rhythm, follow the beats and let your hair down! Prepare to turn the heat up with this one!

Capoeira

As seen on the BBC2 advert! With its roots in Brazil this amazing fusion of Martial Art, dance and percussion will blow you away! Demonstrations and workshops lead by an amazing group from the local area and across the UK.

Yoga and Tai Chi

A chance to relax, and calm. A wonderful opportunity to take time out and find inner peace. Lead by experienced teachers and suitable for all levels. There will also be YogaBugs workshops available for children aged between 2 ½ and 7 years, running over the weekend, an amazing and fun introduction to yoga for children.

Polynesian Dance

Have ago at this beautiful dance form, get your hula grass skirts out! Using traditional dance techniques from the Polynesian islands you will learn the hypnotising hip rotations, some chants and traditional Hawaiin gestures.
